Monticello is a small town located just northeast of Tallahassee near Lake Miccosukee and the Georgia state line. This picturesque little town is a “Florida Main Street Community,” with Victorian and Ante-bellum architecture and towering old oaks that form a canopy over the roads.

Monticello is also a “Tree City,” where spring Dogwoods and summer Crape Myrtles make it beautiful place to visit. There are lots of historic places to visit in Monticello, such as the 1890 Perkins Opera House and the restored 1906 County Courthouse.

The Florida Museum of Natural History’s “Aucilla River Prehistory Project” documents Paleo-Indian activity in Florida of approximately 12,000 years ago. Monticello is home to the annual “Watermelon Festival,” a tradition for 53 years. This festival known as “A Slice of the Good Life” is usually held in mid-June.
