This page will not feature much about the beautiful area surrounding Tallahassee, which will be on another page and driving loop. We'll feature here mostly the downtown area of Tallahassee, which SeeNorthFlorida finds fascinating in the richness of old and new combined and - in a nice combination.

The Capitol buildings - new and old - epitomize Tallahassee’s proud heritage. At the New Capitol, visitors get a glimpse of government in action and a panoramic view of the city from the 22nd floor observatory. In the shade of giant live oaks, the Old Capitol proudly stands restored to its 1902 appearance with candy-striped awnings, stained glass dome and historic displays.

At the heart of Florida’s Capitol City, downtown Tallahassee, lies the Capitol Downtown Cultural District, ten blocks of culture and heritage which await your exploration. You can experience high quality museums of art, history, and science, watch an IMAX movie, view public art sculptures and memorials, and much more. The seat of Florida government offers a panoramic view from the 22nd floor observatory and both the House and Senate have viewing galleries. Murals by Florida artists can be found throughout the building and rotating art exhibits showcasing Florida artists are located on the 22nd Floor, Cabinet Meeting Room, and Governor's Office. The Plaza Level includes a Welcome Center with brochures and information and the Florida History Shop with gifts and handmade treasures.

We encourage you to go to the Visit Tallahassee website, link below and to the left, and request a good map of downtown Tallahassee or get one upon arrival. There are lots of one way streets here but easy to get around if you have a map (and use it!). Its not a madhouse like so many large cities. Parking is meter only most all over and its a 2 hour limit, so park in the Kleman Plaza (#3 below) and enjoy your stay.
